Typha laxmanii is a perennial plant, hardy to -16°C. It takes the form of an upright turadon measuring between 80 and 120 cm in height, composed of multiple linear green and narrow leaves 2 to 7 mm wide.
The vegetation is deciduous, emerging from the substrate in spring. Its brownish, stubby spikes appear from July to September.
