Lobelia cardinalis is a large perennial that forms a bushy tussock and is adorned with large scarlet red flower spikes from summer until early autumn.
The leaves are a bright, light green, sometimes tinged with bronze to purple underneath, lanceolate in shape, toothed at the edge, arranged alternately along the stem.
